i walked the mules on Lehigh
when i was nine years old
i never questioned ma or pa
just did what i was told
when i was twelve pa sold me
to a neighbor, was a friend
so i walked the mules on Lehigh
time, and time again
when i became a captain
i bought me my own team
up and down the Lehigh
before boats were moved by steam
me and Martha had six kids
four boys, and two girls
life upon the Lehigh
was our one, ond only world
Josia/richard:/bin/baal and wood
from Manchong to the sea
along canals like Lehigh
by captive men like me
who knew those running rivers
could take us far away?
from the wooden locks of Lehigh
where we knew no other way
