I grew up in the Allegheny National Forest. Big woods, deep valleys and mountain streams so cold the fish seemed to be frozen when you caught them. The opportunity to strikeout on a hiking trail that could cause lung searing pain before you were out of sight of your parked car were located at each point of the compass. A National Guard search and rescue squad could become a necessary part of even a casual walk if you got turned around on one of those mountain slopes or you forgot your compass.

I left all that behind when I moved to eastern Pennsylvania to attend college. Except for a few years of strenuous running, jumping and crawling under duress with the Marine Corps I wasnÃÂÂÂÂÂÃÃÃÂÂÂ
